House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City #1)
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Release Date: March 2020
Synopsis: Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.
Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.
As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.
Review: I stepped right into the world created by Sarah J. Maas in this epic fantasy novel and was swept away by every page of a very large 800 page book. Many worlds have collided and merged and in it there are angels and demons from all levels of heaven and hell as well as any and every mythological creature you can think of. Even though this is a complex world, it is seamlessly blended and masterfully handled with just the right amount of information given for the reader to understand the world and the people who inhabit it. The suspense is held taught right from the start and with all the unexpected twists and turns, the end was so surprising and well executed that, dare I say it, I may have needed a tissue or two. I wait in anticipation for Book 2.
